Jairzinho vs Jorge Campos: Stats Compared
Right Winger, Brazil (born 1944, retired 1982) · Goalkeeper, Mexico (born 1966, retired 2004)
Put Jairzinho and Jorge Campos side by side and you have a genuine generational conversation. Legacy is the only real measure that outlives the numbers, and both have staked towering claims. By the end Jairzinho had 350 goals from 650 caps and club outings; Jorge Campos had 40 from 686. Assists were not reliably tracked for much of their careers, which makes the playmaking comparison an imperfect one; where records exist, Jairzinho is credited with 60 and Jorge Campos with 0. Trophy counts give Jairzinho 5 and Jorge Campos 8, with 2× FIFA World Cup (1962, 1970) and 1× Mexican Primera División the standout honours respectively. History will file Jairzinho under ruthless greatness and Jorge Campos under commanding greatness — different shelves, same temple. Their routes to the top were distinct: Jairzinho built his reputation across Botafogo, Marseille, Cruzeiro, Portuguesa, Noroeste, peaking around 1970, while Jorge Campos reached his defining level around 1991 after spells with Pumas UNAM, Atlante, Cruz Azul. Few pairings invite such entrenched disagreement, and fewer still deserve it this much.

Player profiles
The only man to score in every match of a World Cup-winning campaign (1970), Jairzinho was the explosive right winger of Brazil's most celebrated side.
“A powerful, direct winger who combined electric pace with a thunderous shot, terrorising full-backs down the right flank.”
Jorge Campos Navarrete (born 15 October 1966) is a Mexican professional football coach and player who plays as a goalkeeper for Tercera Federación – Group 7 club México FC. A notable player of Mexico in the 1990s and early 2000s, Campos was an eccentric player, known for his constant play outside the penalty area – often functioning as a sweeper-keeper, as well as his acrobatic, risky, and flamboyant style of goalkeeping, and his colourful playing attire. His main strengths as a goalkeeper were his leaping ability, athleticism, and speed when rushing off his line, as well as his ability to organize his defense, which enabled him to overcome his short stature.
“A fearless, undersized goalkeeper who compensated with spring, bravery and unusual footwork.”
