Kaká vs Dunga: Stats Compared
Attacking Midfielder, Brazil (born 1982, retired 2017) · Defensive Midfielder, Brazil (born 1963, retired 1998)
Kaká versus Dunga is a clash of two unmistakable footballing identities. It is in how they played, rather than what they won, that the comparison gets interesting. Across his senior career Kaká notched 237 goals in 594 appearances (0.40 per game), while Dunga recorded 60 in 687 (0.09 per game). Assists were never formally recorded across most of their eras, so the playmaking dimension has to be judged on reputation and highlights rather than hard totals. Trophy counts give Kaká 6 and Dunga 8, with 1× FIFA World Cup (2002) and 1× FIFA World Cup (1994) the standout honours respectively. Kaká played with a dictatorial that made him unmistakable; Dunga brought a creative that was equally his own. Context beyond the headline totals is important: Kaká's landmark level arrived around 2007 with a career spanning São Paulo, AC Milan, Real Madrid, Orlando City; Dunga's came around 1994 across Vasco da Gama, Fiorentina, Stuttgart, Júbilo Iwata. Few pairings invite such entrenched disagreement, and fewer still deserve it this much.
