Kaká vs Sócrates: Stats Compared
Attacking Midfielder, Brazil (born 1982, retired 2017) · Attacking Midfielder, Brazil (born 1954, retired 1989)
Ask any fan to rank Kaká above or below Sócrates and you will get a passionate answer. Comparing across positions is never straightforward, and these two asked different questions of opponents. Kaká finishes with 237 career goals from 594 games — a 0.40 strike rate — against Sócrates's 258 from 594 at 0.43 per match. Because assists were not systematically tracked for much of their time, that side of the comparison rests on the footage that survives. Trophy counts give Kaká 6 and Sócrates 8, with 1× FIFA World Cup (2002) and 3× Campeonato Brasileiro Série A the standout honours respectively. As a attacking midfielder Kaká bent the role to a silky template; as a attacking midfielder, Sócrates redefined it with incisive authority. The wider career context matters too: Kaká peaked around 2007 after representing São Paulo, AC Milan, Real Madrid, Orlando City, while Sócrates's defining level came around 1982 across Botafogo-SP, Corinthians, Fiorentina, Flamengo. Picking between them says as much about the picker as the players.
