Xavi vs Dunga: Stats Compared
Central Midfielder, Spain (born 1980, retired 2019) · Defensive Midfielder, Brazil (born 1963, retired 1998)
Set Xavi alongside Dunga and the numbers start an argument of their own. Reputations harden into legacies, and few careers cast longer shadows than these two. Xavi finishes with 113 career goals from 943 games — a 0.12 strike rate — against Dunga's 60 from 687 at 0.09 per match. Assists were not reliably tracked for much of their careers, which makes the playmaking comparison an imperfect one; where records exist, Xavi is credited with 230 and Dunga with 0. Xavi departs the game with 19 major pieces of silverware, including 1× FIFA World Cup (2010); Dunga with 8, including 1× FIFA World Cup (1994). Their legacies diverge in texture: Xavi is remembered as intelligent, Dunga as creative. The wider career context matters too: Xavi peaked around 2011 after representing Barcelona, Al Sadd, while Dunga's defining level came around 1994 across Vasco da Gama, Fiorentina, Stuttgart, Júbilo Iwata. Rank them how you like — both names are carved into the sport's permanent record.
